A Sinful Pleasure

The only sin is that we have to wait for the next instalment.

Despite having heard the critics destroying my hopeful optimism for this film, I still went into it hoping that I’d disagree with them, and when it finished, I was glad I persevered. I was pleasantly surprised by the turnout of this Noir comic book film. The thing I love about the Sin City universe is that, apart from 2008's The Spirit (but let's forget that even existed), there isn't anything like it out there. 300 was in the same boat before every director helming a Spartan or Roman, or any ancient war film for that matter, decided to try and replicate it. This is one of the many reasons why my review of 300: Rise of an Empire doesn’t hold back.

Eva Green. What more is there that I can say? She steals the show yet again, whether it is getting undressed (which makes up a lot of the film) and parading around in the nude, or with her feisty backstabbing dialogue, she shows that she is one of the best actors out there, and one who’s achieved this incredibly quickly. Joseph Gordon Levitt, Josh Brolin and Mickey Rourke also put some solid performances in which created a powerful film.

Unfortunately though, it doesn't come without its flaws. Nancy's revenge story, in my opinion, became very tedious and boring, and that just took the film down a peg.

It was however, interesting to see how they dealt with Dwight’s story of his plastic surgery and development into what he looked like in the first instalment. Since having watched it, I have found out that Clive Owen was going to make a cameo, which could have been interesting to see, but because of his schedule for The Knick he was unable to film the scene.

The thing about this sequel that people will hate is that if you aren't a fan of the predecessor then this isn't going to make you a fan. It is pretty much a carbon copy, whether that is a positive or a negative for you as a viewer is up to you to decide but for me I loved seeing the brutality, violence and unique cinematography that I fell in love with.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is a solid 4 star film that I personally recommend for any fan of action films and comic book films. If you like the Sin City films check out 300 and vice versa.

"You keep asking for it, and asking for it!"

Verdict: One to Watch
